What is the difference between Euro and standard pallets?
09 Apr 2021
The main difference between Euro and standard size pallets are their size. Standard pallets refer to the UK size of 1200 x 1000mm, which is most commonly used. The Euro pallet standard size is 1200 x 800m, which is recognised all over Europe. Whether you want to transport goods around the continent or want to store something here in the U.K, then there are a variety of opinions for you to choose from.
We are proud to supply a variety of pallet types in both Euro and standard size. These are made for a selection of weight-bearing capacities, to perfectly suit your needs. Euro pallets are one of the six types that are recognised around the world by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). They offer a hygienic and environmentally friendly solution to transporting your goods, when they are correctly tracked and monitored.
They come in 1200 X 800mm in size, which is the standard for Euro pallet sizes. These are the approved dimensions for transportation. This also makes them an excellent solution to storing goods. Our pallets are crafted to keep items safe and secure.
Euro pallets vary in the material they are made from. This ranges from hardwoods and softwoods to fibreboard, metals and plastic. Wood is a cheaper material than plastic, making it more of a standard solution for Euro pallets.
Based on your needs, standard pallets differ slightly in size and specifications. This is based on the locality in which the pallets are going to and from. For example, what is different going out of Southampton to another country may require a different pallet than is coming into the country.
Different regions have their own standard sizes of wooden pallets. This makes global and international trade much easier as pallets don’t have to be unloaded and reloaded which can be costly. However, it’s important to check the standard sizes for the region where your pallet will be shipped prior to purchase.
Benefits Of Euro & Standard Pallets
The efficiency of Euro & standard pallets will ensure our customers are making a worthwhile purchase. They are incredibly easy to move around warehouses as they are compatible with all standard handling equipment. Not only does this increase productivity, but it also helps reduce costs.
Each pallet we offer of the Euro or standard specification is manufactured to a fantastic quality. The result of this is a pallet that can be used to withstand heavy loads, acting as a durable container for any goods. With a lightweight structure, they can be easily handled, yet can hold a variety of weights. Euro and standard pallets are robust and are fabricated for optimum weather resistance. The material is also safer to work with given it is not prone to chipping or exposing workers to sharp splinters, corners or nails.
It’s important now more than ever to choose a pallet that can help benefit the ecosystem. Both our Euro and standard pallets can be reused again and again once they reach the end of their lifespan. We are making a conscious effort to prevent landfill. We sold around 245,000 refurbished wooden pallets that were put back into service in 2019. We also sent approximately 36 tonnes of scrap wood to be turned into wood chip which can then be used for many other uses.
